Editing Services

Untitled Design

As a fellow author, I completely understand how frustrating it can be to find an editor to work with that will fit your budget.  My goal is to help my fellow authors without breaking their bank!  If you’re interested in working with me, check out the editing services I offer to figure out which will best suit your needs.  To contact me about any of my editing services or to request a FREE sample edit of your first chapter or up to 10 pages, reach out at booksbysr@gmail.com.

Rough Draft Critique:

This is a big-picture edit for the rough draft of your novel.  I will read through your manuscript once and will provide general thoughts and comments on the story.  This is an important first step to making sure your story has a good base to build on.

Base rate (40,000 words or less) = $40

More than 40,000 words = $1 per 1,000 words

Example: a 60,000 word manuscript would cost $60 (60,000 x $1), but a 30,000 word manuscript would cost the base rate of $40

Proofreading:

My proofreading package is combing through your novel to tighten up grammar and sentence structure issues.  It’s a line-by-line cleanup of your story.

Base rate (40,000 words or less) = $60

More than 40,000 words = $1.50 per 1,000 words

Example: a 60,000 word manuscript would cost $90 (60,000 x $1.50), but a 30,000 word manuscript would cost the base rate of $60.)

Developmental Editing:

A developmental edit is a more in-depth look into your manuscript to take it to the next level.  I will read through your book twice and make notes on your characters, setting, plot, and how well the story flows.  You will receive multiple notes on every single aspect of your story, and I’ll include an overview at the end of each chapter.  I’ll also provide final thoughts and suggestions at the end of the book.  This will help you figure out what works and what doesn’t in your story, as well as if your characters need to be fleshed out better, if your story world needs more (or less) detail, if there are any plot holes that need repairing, and how the pacing of your story events works in the grand scheme of things.

Base rate (40,000 words or less) = $100

More than 40,000 words = $2.50 per 1,000 words

Example: a 60,000 word manuscript would cost $150(60,000 x $2.50), but a 30,000 word manuscript would cost the base rate of $100.)

*If you do an initial Developmental OR Line/Copy edit with me and decide you’d like another one after you revise your manuscript, I will be willing to read through the book a third time for $60.

Line/Copy Edit:

A Line Edit (aka Copy Edit) is my most in-depth package.  It’s the equivalent of a Proofread and a Developmental Edit rolled into one.  I’ll give line-by-line thoughts and edits on your entire novel. This includes two read-throughs and an editorial letter.

Base rate (40,000 words or less) = $120

More than 40,000 words = $3 per 1,000 words

Example: a 60,000 word manuscript would cost $180 (60,000 x $3), but a 30,000 word manuscript would cost the base rate of $120.)

*If you do an initial Developmental OR Line/Copy edit with me and decide you’d like another one after you revise your manuscript, I will be willing to read through the book a third time for $60.

Note: 50% of project price is due up-front and non-refundable, with the remainder due when I return the edits to you.

“A special thanks to Savanna for editing and formatting my writing project.  Not only was she responsive to my time frame and what I needed, but she completed the project earlier than expected. She kept me up to date on each step of the process, which makes for a trusting relationship. I would highly recommend her for any editing project.” -Christine

“Being a first-time author, I was more than a little nervous handing over my manuscript to an editor. I was thrilled to have found Savanna as she is equally as kind as she is knowledgeable and concise. Her input and feedback were invaluable and very cost-effective. Thank you Savanna, you’re a pleasure to work with!” -Joanne

“I have had so many people read and critique my book, but no one has done such an in-depth, fantastic job as you. I feel like I can clearly see all of these flaws in my writing, and I’m eager to fix them! I cannot thank you enough for being honest with me, and I will definitely be asking you for edits in the future!” -Katie

“Savanna was a dream to work with – her professional qualifications coupled with her warm nature made me feel so at ease putting my book into her hands. She was really open about discussing my expectations and timeline and made a point of updating me on her progress every week or so. I was able to rest assured that my book was in the hands of someone who not only knew what they were doing but who genuinely had my back and wishes me to succeed. I look forward to working with her again.” -Jenni
